Reviews-Day Tuesday ft. Nivea In-Shower Body Milk

Happy Reviews-Day Tuesday, Tea Mates!

Today I have a full review of Nivea's newest addition to your shower routine, the In-Shower Body Milk, complete with a fun little story about the brand that I'd like to share with you.

I received this product in the swag bag from Spark Sessions (a blogger conference, which you can read all about HERE).  I got the inside scoop on the latest Nivea items after speaking to one of the ladies from the Nivea team at the conference, while discussing the daily struggle that is my sensitive skin.  I have very indecisive skin - sometimes it's dry, sometimes it's oily, sometimes (A LOT of the time) my skin likes to freak-out when I put anything new on it, partially due to my allergy to benzyl peroxide.  In an effort to minimize the bad reactions, I tend to stay away from anything with harsh ingredients, lots of oil, or anything heavily scented.  So you can imagine my excitement when I heard that the in-shower body milk was dermatologically tested, and made for dry to very dry skin.

Before I give my full review, quick story about when I first started using the product.

I had just used the in-shower body milk, and wanted a second opinion.  I went over to my mom, put out my arm and said "feel my skin".  "Oooohhh.", she said.  "Smell me" I proceeded to demand.  "Mmm!" she said, with a bit more excitement.  She asked me "What is that?".  I told her that it was this new shower product by Nivea, and immediately when she heard the name Nivea, she smiled and said " Ah yes, THAT'S what it reminded me of".  I asked her to go on, and she proceeded to tell me about how the smell reminded her of her childhood, because her mother (my grandmother) always had a jar of Nivea cream on the counter ( apparently, it was everyone's go-to brand), and the smell of the body milk had reminiscent scent-notes.  She said that she would sometimes sneak a little bit of Nivea lotion from the jar and put it on - she said "I felt all 'grown up' when I used it".  We went on to talk about how iconic that blue container is, how my grandmother was probably a loyal NIvea user before my mom was even born, and how while the light scent of the body milk isn't exactly identical to the one from her childhood, it is still similar - the essence is still present enough to immediately take her back more than 50 years.  They say that "smell is the most powerful memory", and Nivea is definitely a shining example of that.

Okay, onward with the review!

Nivea's nourishing in-shower body milk is something that you can easily incorporate into your shower routine.  It is specially formulated to act quickly and absorb into wet skin.  Here is a photo of the easy-to-follow instructions.

I used a toonie-sized portion (for any non-Canadians, a toonie is our $2.00 coin, which is about the same size as the circle you make, when touching your index finger to your thumb ), which was enough to cover me - even though the product comes out a little bit thick, it thins out and distributes quite evenly on wet skin.

Me holding a drop of the body milk upside down, to show the consistency.
The good thing about lotions and skincare being a little thick is that you know it will probably have some good moisturizing properties, and probably won't leave you feeling greasy, which is very true  in regards to this product.

It takes about 30 seconds to use, and after a few weeks of trying it out, I'm happy to say that it has found its way into my shower routine.  It leaves my skin feeling hydrated, so much so, that I don't have to do the lengthy ritual of applying a body lotion post-shower, and waiting 15 minutes for it to dry before I put on my pj's.

This product is going to be especially beneficial to those of us who live in a town that has a very dry and snowy winter approaching.  Lately my hands have been feeling and looking extra dry, but after working this into my shower routine, the red and itchy dry-ness has decreased.  My skin even feels moisturized the day after I shower, which shows how long-lasting it is.

In addition to people who have rough winters, I think that this product would appeal to people who do not have a lot of time on their hands to do a complicated skincare routine, but still want to treat themselves to a mini spa day.  Maybe you're a parent who has kids that take up the majority of your day, or maybe you're a student who is always in class, studying, or working.  If you have a tight schedule, and find it hard to fit in a little 'you-time', Nivea's in-shower body milk is an easy way to pamper yourself.  And the best part for me - No allergic reactions to be seen on my skin! *does happy dance*

In conclusion, this one's definitely a keeper.  Do you have a favourite Nivea product, like my grandmother did?  Let me know in the comments below.  Until next time. - Shawna
