Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo - Review

Do we even remember life before dry shampoo?

drybar detox dry shampoo review

Gone are the days of dragging yourself into the shower to wash your hair, because Drybar invites you to extend your blowout!

How to use:  Shake extremely well.  Spray 4-6" (10-15 cm) from the scalp.  Allow to dry.  Gently rub in (more vigorously for darker hair).

Like many beauty products - I have been burned before.  I remember when dry shampoos were a fairly new thing, I picked up one from TRESemmé.  I don't remember exactly which one it was, but it came in a black can with a neon yellow cap, and it claimed to be volumizing.  I was so excited to use it, and I remember my hair feeling AWFUL afterward.  You know when you have your hair all done up and you use an entire bottle of hairspray to keep it in one piece, then at the end of the day you comb out your hair, and it feels all stiff and chalky?  That's exactly what TRESemmé's dry shampoo felt like.

So needless to say I was feeling cautious about using Drybar's dry shampoo.  I sprayed it near my roots, and the angels sang!  My hair was soft, and smelled kinda of floral-y, with a sweet buttercream-y afterthought (I know - what a weird way to describe something, but that's what I smelled!).  I do think that it's an acquired scent, though.  I don't think the scent will be for everyone, but it's definitely for me.

My favourite way to use this dry shampoo is to use it the night before, instead of using it the day of.  I'll spray it near my roots in different sections, then without touching my hair, I'll hop into bed.  All the tossing and turning I do while sleeping distributes the dry shampoo, and my hair looks beautiful in the morning.

You can find Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo in the 3.5 oz size for $29 CAD/$23 USD at Sephora.  Let me know in the comments if there are any other dry shampoos I should get my hands on.

  1. This is fabulous! It is on my <3 list at Sephora, so happy you're a fan. My go-to is the Klorane one - with the green cap. xx
