Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup - Review, Before & After

Last month I got to take a look at some upcoming Estée Lauder products.  Today, I have a review of the Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup.

The Double Wear Stay-In-Place foundation was my very first full coverage foundation, and opened my eyes to the magic of foundation.  How does the cushion foundation measure up?

"Estée Lauder unveils a new Nude, now with a Double Wear attitude. Introducing NEW Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup, a makeup + pro tool in one. The innovative, easy to use foundation has a built-in cushion tip to dispense the long wearing, instantly hydrating foundation and seamlessly blend away imperfections to reveal a smooth, flawless, radiant glow.  Touch on, buff and blend to a perfect nude. The NEW Double Wear lightweight liquid formula imparts a second skin effect. This is makeup that looks, feels and acts like flawless bare skin all day – it’s nude reinvented."

The Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup comes in 13 shades.  The applicator is attached to the tube, so it's very travel friendly.  You twist up the bottom of the tube, and product is dispensed through the cushion applicator (which is removable for future cleaning).  If you twist up too much product, you can twist it in the other direction, to put the formula back into the tube.  As the product is used up, the tube shrinks and the clear window that shows the product minimizes, until there is no window showing, and the product is done.  One tube contains 12 ml of product, compared to the classic Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Foundation, which contains 30 ml of product.

Application involves three steps;
  1. Twist. Start with clean, dry, moisturized skin. Pull off gold-tone cap and slowly twist the base until the first drop of makeup appears on the cushion tip. If too much formula is released, twist in the opposite direction to stop the flow and pull product back.
  2. Touch on. Apply with a gentle tapping motion dotting foundation across forehead, nose, cheeks and chin – or only to areas where coverage is needed.
  3. Buff and Blend. Smooth out dots with a circular motion or use light strokes to blend across skin, from center of face out toward hairline.

As you can see, '2W1 Dawn' was not my colour.  It's too dark and yellow-toned for my complexion (I'm a tried and true '1C1 Cool Bone').  Colour matching aside, this product just wasn't for me.  I put on two layers of foundation, but it still resulted in a light, maybe almost-medium coverage.  That type of coverage might work for a lot of people, but for myself (someone who uses foundation to even out their skintone, and cover up break-outs), the coverage just wasn't there.  I also found that this took a lot of blending.  The cushion was soft, but after blending into my face for 5 minutes (to eliminate streaky-ness), it wasn't very comfortable.

For someone like me who likes more coverage, I'd still stick with the Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Foundation over the Cushion Stick.  It's less sheer, and for the same price, you get more than double the amount of product.  Plus, you have the freedom to use whatever brush or blending tool you'd like.

You can find the Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup for $46.00 CAD, at Hudson’s Bay, Holt Renfrew, Shoppers Drug Mart, Murale, Sephora, Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue Estée Lauder counters.
