Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Matte Long Wear Lipstick - Review, Swatches, and Looks

Too Faced has had a few teasers on their Instagram page of upcoming new products.  Included in the bunch are some new colours of the Melted Matte liquid lipsticks (Forest Green!).  Since new colours are coming out, it's about time that I try out the original Melted Matte colours.

I've tried matte liquid lipsticks from Kat Von D, Colourpop, Anastasia Beverly Hills, and Milani, so let's add Too Faced to the list and see how they measure up!

The Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Matte Long Wear Lipsticks are a collection of liquid lipsticks that dry down to a matte finish.  They come in so many fun colours - where to begin?

'Bend & Snap!' is a fun fuschia that applied beautifully.

'Naughty By Nature' a coffee brown that leans a tiny bit red.

'Who's Zoomin Who' is a super fun midnight blue.  The formula was patchy, which I find is common in many darker coloured liquid lipsticks.  (I wore this one to IMATS Toronto!)

'Mrs. Roper' is an almost neon salamander orange.  Application was streaky, which you can see, especially on the bottom lip.

'Queen B' is a lilac-toned mauve-y nude.  It's definitely a "my lips but better colour", and one of the more universally flattering colours of the bunch.  It's absolutely gorgeous - I could happily wear this colour every day.

'Drop Dead Red' is a darkened cherry red.  While being a stunning colour (I feel very Cruella DeVille-ish!), the formula is difficult.  It was patchy, hard to apply, and the colour bled.  This is definitely one that I'd recommend pairing with a lip liner.

'Lady Balls' is a true red - 'nuff said (hey rhyming, heeeey)!  The formula on this one was fantastic - creamy and smooth.

'Unicorn' is a violet grape purple.  I really wanted this one to be amazing, since I loooooove purples, bit it was a let down.  Similar to 'Drop Dead Red', it was patchy, and the colour bled.

'Cool Girl' is a cool-toned brown-grey nude, with a hint of pink.  Definitely falls into the neutral category.

When it comes to liquid lipsticks, I'm not very picky, as far as how comfortably they wear.  I totally understand that they're supposed to be drying - I've actually gotten used to that dry feeling, so it doesn't really bother me.  I would say the Too Faced Melted Mattes wear similarly to the Kat Von D Everlasting liquid lipsticks, which I would put just above Colourpop, as far as how comfortably they wear.

I did find that when these liquid lipsticks set, they remained just a little bit tacky.  Not tacky enough to stray or transfer onto my coffee, but just enough for me to notice when I pressed my lips together, or rubbed my finger across my lips.

Slight tackiness aside, I think the big selling point with these is the colour selection.  'Queen B' is absolutely glorious for an everyday colour, and they have fun colours like 'Who's Zoomin Who', and 'Unicorn' for days when you're feeling adventurous.  And the wear time is pretty good.  Of course, like all liquid lipsticks, they don't stand a chance against greasy food, but eating aside, the Melted Mattes tend to last about 4-5 hours before I notice cracking/fading in the centre of my lips.

The only thing that I would note about these is that, like many liquid lipsticks, they dry much darker than the colour you see in the tube, so if you can, try it on and walk around with it on for a bit before you buy it.  Just to make sure that the colour suits you, when it's on your lips.

In conclusion, because I'm in a phase where I just want to wear EVERY lipstick colour, I can't wait for Too Faced to release more of the new Melted Matte colours.

You can find Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Matte Long Wear Lipstick online, or in-store at Sephora and Ulta for $21.00 USD/$25.00 CAD.
