Wet n Wild Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick Collection - Review, Swatches, Looks

Wet n Wild Wednesday is here, and I am bringing you the product that I have been most excited about - Wet n Wild's take on liquid lipsticks!

So many higher end brands have come out with liquid lipsticks, so I'm always excited to see how drugstore versions stack up.

The Wet n Wild Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipsticks ($6.99 CAD) come in 13 shades.  They contain 6 grams of product, compared to the Too Faced Melted Mattes which contain 7 mL, and MAC Retro Mattes which contain 5 mL.

The applicator is fluffy, and curved so it cups your lip as you apply.  I've heard people who haven't enjoyed the applicator, and find it too big, but I actually like it.  The curve held a lot of product, so you don't need to dip in multiple times, and the fluffiness allows the product to smooth out on your lips, and eliminate streaky-ness.

I should note right here that these shades were very appropriately named.  So I'll do my best to describe the shades without using a term from the name, but sometimes using parts of the shade name is the best way to describe it.

'Nudie Patootie' is a cafe au lait nude.  This is the lightest nude of the bunch, and applied nicely.

'Nudist Peach' is a coral peach.  This one was a tad bit streaky.

'Coral Corruption' is a blood orange spin on your classic coral, with a little bit of neon.

'Pink Really Hard' is a strawberry milk pink.  Also a bit streaky during application.

'Rebel Rose' is a dusty rose.  It was very creamy and applied beautifully.  Definitely the most wearable shade of the bunch.

'Give Me Mocha' is a red velvet.  I really wanted this shade to have a good formula, but it sheered out with every swipe, and turned dark on certain parts of my lips.

'Berry Recognize' is a berry pomegranate pink.  The pigmentation is fantastic - a one coater!

'Nice To Fuchsia' is a magenta fuchsia that reminds me of the Too Faced Melted Matte in 'Bend and Snap'.  Another one with a nice formula - very even application.

'Oh My Dolly' is a straight up neon pink.  Think Barbie's Convertible.  Similar shade to Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in 'Backstage Bambi'.

'Flame of the Game' is a scarlet amber.  It leans a bit red, which makes it more wearable.

'Missy and Fierce' is a cardinal blue-toned red.  This shade screams "Sealed with a kiss".  Very pigmented, and easy to apply.

'Video Vixen' is a mulberry merlot.  It had a drier formula and took a lot of work to get close to even coverage.  Pretty patchy (like many darker liquid lipstick shades).

'Goth Topic' is a brown-toned blackened purple.  It had a better formula than 'Video Vixen', but it still took some work.

I found that the best way to apply these was to apply a thin layer first, then a thicker second layer.  The liquid lipsticks took a little bit of time to fully set - about 10 minutes.  When set, they were still slightly tacky - not so tacky that your lips would stick together....about 90% dry, and 10% tacky.  That being said, they were still set matte, and transfer-proof.

As far as wear-time, after about 3 hours the product faded in that ring around the centre of my lips.  The fading wasn't super noticeable, but the area where it faded became pretty sticky.

Sometimes you look at a collection of shades and pick out three or four that you assume probably aren't going to work for you.  Which is definitely what I thought about a few shades in this collection - because I don't think I'm bold enough to pull off reds and oranges, and sometimes I think the light nudes make me look a little too ghostly.  But that wasn't the case for these shades!  As I put them on my lips, took a step back, and looked in the mirror, I thought to myself "Ooooh, hey guuuuurl.  Working it!".

The Wet n Wild Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick are available at select food, drug, and mass retailers, and online.
