Lipstick Queen Lipstick Chess Collection - Review, Swatches, Looks

You might know Lipstick Queen for making innovative products like their green-to-pink blush 'Frog Prince', and their blue-to-sheer lipstick in 'Hello Sailor'.  While Lipstick Queen is no stranger to giving you crazy colours, now they're bringing us matte lipsticks.

The Lipstick Chess Collection contains six wearable matte shades.  From nudes to reds, these lipsticks are sure to please the masses.

"Six fantastic, full coverage shades represent a new take on modern must-haves.  Brightening up the dark and accelerating the nude, this lipstick redefines what it means to wear matte thanks to its super hydrating, suede-feel formula.  Enriched with natural oils, waxes, and anti-oxidant Vitamin E, these smooth, luxe, and comfortable lipsticks are super-charged and pigment-packed, with a matte finish that won't dry out your lips."

Each lipstick is named after a specific chess piece.  When I previewed these lipsticks in the fall, the people from Lipstick Queen told me that each chess piece has certain characteristics, and the trait linked to your favourite shade of lipstick says something about you.

Queen - Reigns Supreme
King - Noble
Rook - Bold
Knight - Unpredictable
Bishop - Courageous
Pawn - Loyal To What They Love

I have three of the six shades to share with you.

First up is 'Pawn', a terracotta nude.  Like most nudes in my case, I had to do an extra layer to achieve full coverage.

'Bishop' is a rich mauve-y rose.  It reminded me of Maybelline's 'Lust For Blush', but a little more neutral.  Definitely my fave of the three.

'Queen' is a blue-toned currant red.

This is actually my first time trying Lipstick Queen products, and I'm pretty pleased.  They were very comfortable to wear - creamy, but not too creamy.  Any time my lips felt the slightest bit dry, I'd rub my lips together, and re-moisturize (and the lipstick didn't drag when I rubbed my lips together!).  The pigmentation was nice too - I'd give the pigmentation an 8 out of 10 - not so pigmented that it was scary, but enough to be present on your lips.

The Lipstick Queen Lipstick Chess collection will be available for $32 CAD each, at Murale, staring February 2017.
