Givenchy Noir Interdit Mascara - Review, Before & After

Mascara packaging seems pretty standard these days - a tube, a wand, and some product.

But Givenchy is switching it up with their new 90° brush.

The Givenchy Noir Interdit Mascara promises three things:

  • Extreme length
  • Buildable Volume
  • Lash extension effect

The packaging is a square tube (a personal fave, because it's a dream for makeup storage), with a one sided comb-like applicator that can bend up to 90°.

I want a mascara to do it all: lengthen, volumize, give me some va-va-voom.  However, because I think that my lashes are pretty thick on their own, my main priority is length.  I used the mascara wand at 180° for my bottom lashes, bent it to 90° for the inner corner as well as the center of my top lashes, and bent it to 45° for the outer corner of my top lashes.  While I found that the flexible wand was nice, it wasn't totally necessary.

The formula was wet enough to coat my lashes, but no so thick that I couldn't apply a second coat (usually I have to stick to one coat of mascara, so being able to put on a second coat without it looking clumpy was a nice change).

I put this mascara through the ringer, in the name of giving it a thorough testing.  I just wore the mascara as well as some lip oil (Clarins Lip Comfort Oil - review HERE) to work.  I applied the mascara at 8:00 AM, and wore it until well past midnight.  Throughout the day I did my daily tasks at work (I normally don't wear any makeup, as I work in a gym, which can get toasty - no point in doing a full face if it's going to sweat off, right?).  In addition to a full day of work, I also went to an indoor adult obstacle course, and boy was it ever a workout!  Throughout the day I accidentally rubbed my eyes twice, and worked up quite the sweat at the obstacle course, and the mascara didn't budge.

At the end of the night, when I removed the mascara with an oil remover and then a micellar water, it all came off.  Usually when I remove my mascara in this fashion, I still have a fair amount of mascara left over on my lashes, which shows through the next morning when it's all over my face.

Needless to say, I'm pretty happy with this mascara.  For me, it came through on all of its promises.  While it's not my all-time fave (Covergirl LashBlast Volume Mascara & Tarte Tarteist Mascara are my top two), this one will definitely find its way into the monthly mascara rotation.
